Risk disclosure

Short, and the part most people skip. If you read one page on this site, read this one.

The single most important sentence

Trading financial instruments carries a high risk of losing money, the majority of retail investor accounts lose money when trading leveraged products, and nothing taught in these sessions changes that.

1. You can lose money, including all of it

Financial instruments such as shares, currencies, commodities, contracts for difference, futures and crypto-assets move in ways nobody can reliably predict. Prices can fall quickly and without warning. You may lose the entire amount you put in.

With leveraged products, losses can exceed your initial deposit unless your provider offers negative balance protection, which not all of them do and which is not available everywhere.

2. Leverage magnifies losses exactly as it magnifies gains

Leverage lets you control a position much larger than your deposit. A small adverse price move can therefore wipe out a large part of your account, and a margin call can close your positions at the worst possible moment without your involvement. Session four of the program is devoted to this and is not optional.

3. Demo results are simulated, and mean less than they appear

Everything you do in these sessions happens on a demo account credited with $50,000 in virtual funds. That balance is simulated money supplied by the platform for practice: it cannot be withdrawn or converted, it is not income, and it is not a suggestion that you would or should trade with such an amount. Simulated results are not an indication of real results, for reasons that are structural rather than incidental:

  • A simulator usually fills your order at the quoted price. A real market in motion often does not.
  • Financing costs, commissions and spreads are frequently simplified or absent in a demo environment.
  • A demo account has no liquidity constraint. A large real order can move the price against you.
  • The practice balance is larger than most people would ever put at risk, so the same percentage loss feels abstract on a demo account and severe on a real one.
  • Above all, losing virtual money costs you nothing. The emotional pressure that causes most real trading mistakes is entirely absent, so a demo account systematically flatters your discipline.

Performing well on a demo account is not evidence that you would perform well with real money.

4. Past performance says nothing about the future

No historical result, chart pattern, indicator, backtest or track record, whether Mark's, a broker's or anyone else's, predicts what a price will do next. This site publishes no performance figures for exactly that reason.

5. Nothing here is investment advice

Mark TRD School provides general educational information about how markets, instruments and platforms work. It does not take your financial situation, objectives, tax position, existing holdings or risk tolerance into account, and it therefore cannot be a personal recommendation.

Mark is not a licensed or regulated financial adviser and gives no advice on what to buy, sell or hold. Mark TRD School is not a broker, does not execute orders, and never holds or manages client funds. Before making any financial decision, consider consulting a professional licensed in your own country.

6. No promise, guarantee or estimate of profit

Neither Mark nor this website promises, guarantees, projects or implies any level of profit, income or return. Any communication you receive that appears to come from this school and does contain such a promise is not genuine; please report it.

7. Only risk what you can afford to lose

If you decide to trade with real money after these sessions, do so only with money you can lose entirely without it affecting your housing, obligations, dependants or wellbeing. Never trade with borrowed money, credit, or funds set aside for something else.

8. Trading can become compulsive

Frequent short-term trading shares characteristics with gambling and can become compulsive, particularly when it is used to recover a loss. If you recognise that pattern in yourself, stop and speak to a support organisation in your country. Mark will end the sessions if that appears to be what is happening, and will say why.

9. Eligibility

These sessions are for adults aged 18 or over. The website is not directed at residents of jurisdictions where the described activity would breach local law or regulation, including the United States, Canada, Japan, Belgium, and any territory subject to applicable sanctions. Rules on the marketing of leveraged products vary by country and are your responsibility to check.

10. Your decisions are yours

Any decision you take about your money after these sessions is yours alone, and you bear its consequences. Mark TRD School accepts no liability for trading losses. See the terms of use.
